iPhone 17 Charging Performance Revealed

2025-06-25

Amid the rapid advancements in the tech industry, Apple’s latest flagship, the iPhone 17 series, has garnered widespread attention. Renowned analyst Jeff Pu recently shared a

significant report that stunned industry insiders: the new lineup—iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—all support 35W wired fast charging.

This figure shows almost no improvement over the previous iPhone 16 series. Looking back to 2022 standards, ChargerLAB’s real-world tests revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro maxed

out at just 30W during sustained charging, while PhoneArena observed a peak of 38W under extreme conditions. The question remains: Is this marginal charging upgrade enough to

meet the demands of today’s users?

In stark contrast to the aggressive charging advancements in the Android camp—where mainstream flagship devices commonly support up to 100W fast charging—the iPhone 17

series appears sluggish, as if Apple has deliberately slowed its pace. Another puzzling omission in the report is any mention of MagSafe wireless charging speeds. The current iPhone 16

series supports up to 25W MagSafe wireless charging, and users clearly expected improvements in this area for the new models.

On the design front, the iPhone 17 series introduces several eye-catching changes. The iPhone 17 Pro, in particular, features a large horizontal camera array on the back, with its DECO

design bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. It houses a triple-camera setup, flash, and LiDAR module, exuding a substantial presence. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air

takes a unique approach with a horizontal camera module and a strip-shaped "runway" DECO design, closely mirroring the aesthetic of the Google Pixel 9 series, offering a distinct

visual appeal.

Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Air will be powered by the latest A19 chip, while the Pro models are expected to feature the more powerful A19 Pro chip. Additionally, the high-end

variants will boast up to 12GB of RAM and support Apple Intelligence, delivering a comprehensive upgrade to the user experience.

With charging speeds seeing only a marginal improvement—akin to Apple’s cautious approach—the iPhone’s technological innovation seems to be in dire need of a breakthrough.

Whether users will find the iPhone 17 compelling in the fast-paced 5G era may depend on further surprises yet to be unveiled.

However, regarding the fast-charging specs of the iPhone 17 series, new details have emerged.

Recent reports from foreign media have shed more light on the wireless charging capabilities of the upcoming lineup.

According to the latest information, two new MagSafe chargers from Apple have received certification, with model numbers A3503 and A3502. These chargers support the upgraded Qi

2.2 standard, featuring a white disc design and coming with 2-meter and 1-meter braided cables, respectively. The Qi 2.2 standard, introduced by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC),

is an improvement over Qi 2.1 and supports charging outputs of up to 50W—a significant leap from Qi 2’s 15W limit. Beyond faster charging, Qi 2.2 also enhances magnetic

alignment and charging efficiency while maintaining backward compatibility with older Qi chargers. Notably, while the iPhone 17 series is expected to support the new wireless

charging standard, it remains uncertain whether it will fully utilize the 50W capability.

In other news, previous leaks suggest that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with the A19 chip, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature the A19 Pro chip.

Compared to the A18 and A18 Pro, the A19 series will utilize TSMC’s third-generation 3nm N3P process, delivering a 5% performance boost at the same power consumption or a

5%–10% reduction in power usage at the same performance level.

Furthermore, the iPhone 17 Pro series will adopt a unified rear camera design, incorporating an upgraded periscope telephoto lens with a 48MP sensor—a major leap from the 12MP

lens in the iPhone 16 Pro series. The main and ultra-wide cameras will also feature 48MP sensors, making this the first iPhone lineup to use 48MP sensors across all rear cameras. The

front camera will also see an upgrade to 24MP.

The iPhone 17 series is expected to debut this September, with four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the all-new iPhone 17 Air.

The pricing of the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be relatively affordable, likely matching the iPhone 16 Plus at around $899 (~¥6,500). More details are yet to be revealed—stay tuned.
